NFR restores Jamira-Bairabi rail stretch in 10 days

Maligaon, September 12 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has restored the affected Jamira-Bairabi stretch of the Katakhal-Bairabi rail section within 10 days of soil erosion caused by heavy rainfall, NFR said on Saturday.

The incident occurred on September 3, when soil erosion close to the railway track affected approximately 70 metres of track. The erosion extended up to 40 metres from the track centre, necessitating temporary suspension of train services.

The restoration work was carried out under challenging conditions, including continued adverse weather, unstable ground and difficult road access to the affected location.

NFR swiftly mobilised manpower, heavy machinery and essential materials at the site. Railway officials, engineers and field personnel worked round the clock to stabilise the vulnerable area and rebuild the damaged formation, making the track safe for train movement.
The sustained 24x7 efforts enabled the critical rail link to be restored safely within days, NFR said.

Following completion of the restoration, a trial run with a locomotive and one coach was successfully conducted over the restored stretch at 4:30 pm on September 12, confirming its fitness for train movement.

Train No. 55669 (Silchar-Sairang) Passenger became the first train to pass safely through the affected stretch after restoration of the rail track.

Train services over the Katakhal-Bairabi section will resume from September 13 in a phased manner, NFR said.

The swift restoration reinforces NFR's commitment to maintaining safe and dependable railway connectivity despite difficult terrain and severe weather conditions, it said.
