NFR RPF arrests 174 touts, recovers over Rs 33 lakh in tickets this year

MALIGAON, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) apprehended 174 ticket touts and recovered a total of 1,215 tickets worth over Rs 33.24 lakh from January to October 2024. The latest operations, conducted in October, saw the recovery of 55 railway tickets valued at Rs. 1.19 lakh and the arrest of 7 individuals involved in touting, a press release issued by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer informed on Tuesday. 

A major operation took place on October 9 when the Crime Investigation Branch (CIB) of Katihar, along with the Barsoi RPF team, raided a suspected touting hub at Barsoi. 

During the raid, authorities recovered two live tickets worth approximately Rs 5,790 and arrested a tout. A case was subsequently registered under Section 143 of the Railways Act at Barsoi police station.

Another significant raid occurred on October 27 when the RPF of New Coochbehar, in collaboration with CIB and CPDS teams of Alipurduar, carried out a joint operation at "Bapi Xerox" in Okrabari Bazar, Coochbehar. 

The team seized 10 railway tickets valued at Rs 49,842, including one live e-ticket worth Rs 6,504.95 and 9 used e-tickets totaling Rs 43,337.30. One individual was arrested, and a case was filed under Section 143 of the Railways Act at New Coochbehar.
