
Maligaon, November 20 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is set to add extra general class coaches to 39 trains, with the modification already completed on 36 of them.
The augmentation of 36 trains has resulted in an addition of 69 rakes with 276 general seating (GS) coaches, stated a press release from the NFR, adding that three more trains, featuring 16 additional GS coaches, will be augmented by the end of December 2024.
As per the release, the Indian Railways (IR) is working to improve general-class travel by introducing over 1,000 new GS coaches on nearly 370 regular trains by November 2024.
This move is expected to accommodate approximately 100,000 additional passengers daily, showcasing IR's focus on inclusivity and convenience, it said
Furthermore, plans are underway to induct over 10,000 non-AC coaches, including more than 6,000 GS and additional sleeper-class coaches, in the next two years across the country, it informed.
The NFR's efforts contribute significantly to this national initiative and conveys its commitment to enhancing passenger services and making train journeys more comfortable and accessible for all, it added.
