NFR to implement Kavach 4.0 for enhanced safety

Maligaon, November 3 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is set to integrate Kavach 4.0, an advanced indigenous safety technology system, as part of Indian Railways' broader initiative to enhance train operations and safety across its network.

This innovative system is designed to prevent accidents and ensure smoother train operations, providing an additional layer of safety for passengers and crew.

Kavach 4.0 offers a comprehensive, technology-driven solution featuring automatic braking capabilities if the loco pilot fails to respond, alongside real-time line-side signals displayed directly in the driver’s cab. Continuous updates on movement authority are provided through radio-based communication, with key features including automatic whistling at level crossing gates, direct locomotive-to-locomotive communication to prevent collisions, and an SOS function to alert authorities in emergencies.

The system is built on several critical technological components, such as Station Kavach, which receives information from Loco Kavach and signaling systems to guide locomotives. RFID tags are installed along the tracks to monitor the train’s location and direction, while a robust Communication Backbone of optical fiber cables and communication towers ensures seamless information exchange between the locomotive and station.

Kavach 4.0 employs cutting-edge technologies like relay-based interlocking, UHF radio for signal communication, RFID for precise location tracking, GSM for secure communication, and GPS for accurate time synchronization.
