Ngada Festival-cum-Mini Hornbill in Tseminyu

Ngada festival-cum-Mini Hornbill 2024 under the aegis of Rengma Hoho commenced at RSA Ground, Tseminyu on November 27. Ngada is the premier festival of the Rengma Nagas.

Tseminyu Deputy Commissioner Rohit Singh graced the day one event as the special guest. Speaking on the occasion, Singh stressed on the need to realize “that we have strength in our culture, we have strength in our identity and we need to preserve and protect it.”

Stating that Ngada festival reminds one all to all to respect each other, he said “We need to have mutual respect and understanding and also promote peace in our society,” he said. He was hopeful the Ngada festival will get broader recognition throughout the country and the world “so that many tourists come to this place (Tseminyu) and enjoy the activities that are part of this festival.”

‘Ngada has potential to promote tourism’
Singh maintained that Ngada has potential to promote tourism in the state and also ensure that there is greater economic benefit to all the people.

Also sharing greetings, Angami Public Organization  vice president Vikehielie (Victor) hoped and prayed that Ngada festival would bring good fortune, love, kindness, forgiveness, healthy life and give power to overcome evil.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Rengma Hoho secretary Nthonwa Magh. Later, Rengma Selo Zi managed indigenous games activities like- bamboo grease pole climbing, strength display with bamboo pole, bamboo karting, traditional fire making, bamboo stick walking, high kick and Naga wrestling.

Meanwhile, the main celebration will take place on November 28 from 9:30 AM onwards. MLA Ar Jwenga Seb, chairman DPDB Tseminyu will be the chief host while Kvulo Lorin, Chairman, NIDC will be the guest of honour. Keynote address will be delivered by Rengma Hoho president Er Tesinlo Semy while Ngada greetings will be shared by Kekhwengulo Lea, president Tenyimi Union Nagaland.

The celebration will be marked by cultural presentation and Ngada feast.

About Ngada
Ngada, celebrated by the Rengma Naga tribe towards the end of November, is an eight day festival of thanksgiving, merry making and cultural unity.

After the yearlong hard toiled crops are gathered from fields to granaries, brings the community together in gratitude for the harvest and in remembrance of departed souls, marking the conclusion of the agricultural year.

Beyond its festivities, Ngada is a heartfelt celebration of life, gratitude and cultural identity, keeping the traditions of the Rengma Nagas alive and vibrant for generations.
