NGBF asks Naga political groups & GoI to sort out differences

DIMAPUR, MARCH 7 (MExN): The Nagaland GBs Federation (NGBF) has appealed to the Naga political groups and the Government of India to sort out their “differing positions, reconsider what could be the best for the Nagas’ future and come to the logical conclusion without wasting any more time.”

A press note from the NGBF President, Shaleem Konyak and General Secretary, Akhu Naga appreciated Deputy National Security Advisor and Interlocutor for the Naga peace talks, RN Ravi for his visit last month.

“It is to be noted that RN Ravi has enunciated the status of the ongoing Naga Peace talks with various organizations in which he has categorically stated except for flag and constitution, all the relevance points have been discussed and agreed upon by both negotiating parties,” the NGBF pointed out.

It mentioned that in 22 years, a “substantial change in the political equations has taken place on both sides.” This, the NGBF said, “has led to an inclusive process in the negotiations, with all Naga National Political groups. And that is an indication that the composite process is ample enough for finalizing the matters.”

However it cautioned that if in 22 years an agreement could not be reached between Government of India and Naga National Political groups, “it is nothing more than clamping the sword of uncertainty on the Nagas.”

“The intentions and sincerity of both the parties engaged in the negotiations come under the cloud of doubts, fears and insecurity among the Nagas. If four Government of the Union of India could not find a solution, the fifth also can be expected to linger on one or the other matter. And Nagas will have to believe that peace talks were counterproductive and with the intention of something different across both sides of the table,” it added.
