Dimapur, July 20 (MExN): The Nagaland Gaon Bura (Village Chief) Federation (NGBF) and the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) have urged the Government of India (GoI) to ink a final solution to the Naga Peace Talks without delay.
On Wednesday, the two organisations issued separate statements welcoming the four-point resolution of the state government’s Parliamentary Committee on the Naga Political Issue (PCoNPI) declared on July 16, stating that it was reflective of the Naga people’s desire to see a final conclusion to the protracted political dialogue.
NGBF: In its statement, the NGBF said the resolutions had “come at a right time for the people of Nagaland,” and urged the GoI to ink an acceptable and honourable Indo-Naga political agreement without delay.
The resolutions made by all sixty elected members, representing entire people of Nagaland, “is essentially an unmistakable appeal to the GoI (Government of India) to sign the agreement with Naga negotiating groups who formally concluded political talks on October 31, 2019,” it said.
Since the elected representatives of Nagaland state have officially promised to facilitate and pave the way in the event of a political solution, NGBF believes it is an appropriate moment for the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, to fulfil his assurance to the Naga people, it added.
It also said that the political leadership of India is now a torchbearer of the democratic world, while urging the GoI to ink a political agreement without further delay, as a solution to Indo-Naga political problem would add to the statesmanship and stature of India.
NTC: According to the NTC, the definite objective of the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) entering into ceasefire with the Government of India and the peaceful environment under which years of political negotiations have been held, was to have the logical end of solution.
All those official engagements between the entities are not indeed meant for futile exercise, it said in a press release issued through its Media Cell.
It said that the four-point resolution was a “timely interjection” at a time when the Naga public has become weary and impatient in view of the political solution being overdue. “The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) welcomes each point of the resolution and heartily congratulates the 60 MLAs for having rightly encouraged and admonished the political negotiators,” it added.
“Since the right message of the people of Nagaland being sent to Government of India, the NTC once again urges the Union Government to immediately conclude the processes into the solution on the basis of the mutual closure of the talks on October 31, 2019 before 2023 State Assembly Elections,” the release stated.
