Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): The ruling NPF has clarified on the involvement of NGOs and civil society in maintaining law and order. The DAN government was seized of the situation and well aware of its responsibilities and duties, it said. “The government of the day is duty bound to enforce the prevalence of law and order and carry out its responsibilities in accordance with the laid down rules”, stated a press note from the party’s secretary general KG Kenyie. The NPF also claimed that the overall law and order situation in the state has ‘improved and there is prevalence of peace and security.’ However, it stated that there have been occasions when the general public is made to undergo ‘inconveniences and difficulties.’
“Therefore, the state government has actively called for the cooperation and participation of the NGOs and civil societies to come forward and contribute towards the wellbeing of one and all”. According to the NPF, this is not a new precedent in any manner, as it is prevalent everywhere else in the world. “Moreover, in our Naga society, we have the utmost respect and reverence for the civil societies and tribal organisations, which are part of the traditional Naga society in all matters, including political issues”, the NPF argued. In the ‘ongoing negotiations’ as well, it added, civil society and hohos have a vital role to play.
As such it stated that the DAN government will never undermine the role of the hohos and civil societies but we will look forward to partnering with them in all possible areas because bringing peace, development and progress is the collective responsibility of every section of society. “We reiterate our appreciation to the civil societies and hohos for their contributions and hope to work towards stronger cooperation and better understanding for the sake of our people”.
