Insists on revoking government’s OM and reverting class-III posts to NPSC
Kohima, December 13 (MExN): The Nagaland Government Registered Class-1 Contractors’ Union (NGRC-1 CU) in a meeting on December 12 re-affirmed its earlier demand to set up a powerful Lokayukta in Nagaland and further demanded to pass the Lokayukta Bill in the State Assembly winter session scheduled to commence on December 14.
As pointed by the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) and ACAUT Nagaland, the NGRC-1 CU will not accept certain provisions such as prior sanction/prosecution sanction in the Lokayukta Bill which would make Lokayukta a “tooth-less tiger,” asserted a statement from NGRC-I CU general secretary, L Pukhato Shohe and president, Seyiekuolie.
The NGRC-1 CU further demanded to revoke the Nagaland Government’s Office Memorandum (OM) of October 26, 2017, which scrapped all Class- III posts (except Secretariat Assistants) from the purview of NPSC. The union insisted to revert back class-III posts (Grade pay of Rs. 2800/- and above) to the Nagaland Public Service Commissioner (NPSC). It maintained that the memorandum is “simply inviting backdoor appointments which cannot be tolerated as it puts the thousands of public service aspirants into serious depression.”
Meanwhile, the union celebrated pre-Christmas with social activist Kezhokhoto Savi as speaker on the same day at its office conference hall in Kohima. In his Christmas message, Savi said during the Advent, “we celebrate the hope we have in the present because Jesus is in the midst of life’s pain, injustice, and the unknown. We also place our hope in the day when Jesus will return again and his kingdom will bring in a time of complete healing and light.”
For Christians, he added, the season of Advent anticipated the coming of Christ from three perspective; coming of Christ in the flesh in Bethlehem, in our hearts daily, and in glory at the end of time. The season offers an opportunity to share in the ancient longing for the coming of the Messiah and to be alert for His Second coming, Savi stated.
Based on the Kingdom of God at the work place, Savi reminded the huge responsibilities of builders in the country. “We heard collapse of big buildings and bridges not sparing in Nagaland especially bridges in Dimapur,” he noted, while questioning “What could be the causes of collapse? Was it due to natural calamity or poor quality of materials & workmanship or the builder is someone who does not fear God?”
The press release informed that the NGRC-1 CU office will remain closed from December 16, 2017 and will re-open on January 15, 2018. The union has wished every citizen a blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year.
