DIMAPUR, MARCH 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Govt. Registered Class-1 Contractors’ Union (NGRC-1 CU) on Tuesday urged Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to promote quality work by keeping a check on the contractors and the concerned executing departments.
It appealed the present ruling government not to entertain deduction of various commissions or for party fund from the project funds.
While informing this, a press statement from the NGRC-1 CU president Seyiekuolie and general secretary S. Bendang Jamir also wanted that the present government strictly follow the open tender process so as to award works to competent contractors.
In order to check bogus contractors, the union requested all the government departments to furnish the names of firm and contractors, name of the project and the ongoing work progress to the union office.
In awarding works to contractors, the union urged the present government to give preference to the local contractors. It pointed out that the government has already experienced huge loss and a big failure taken by outsider like M/S Gayatri & Maytas who had miserably failed to perform the contract work under SARDP-NE –namely the two laning of Longleng-Chantongya road, Mon-Tamlu-Merangkong road, Phek-Pfutsero road and Zunheboto-Chakhabama road.
It also maintained that the present ongoing works of Dimapur and Kohima four lane roads is causing misery to the people especially those residing along the National Highway as the contractors failed to maintain the old road dust free and not lifting the cutting mud as per the specification.
Further, the contractor union said the land owners should not disturb or stop the ongoing project so that it is completed on time.
