Kohima, February 25 (MExN): The Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA) of 2010 and 2013 batches, has announced the first phase of a democratic protest beginning February 26 at the Directorate of School Education (DoSE) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The association representing 2293 members, in a press release stated that it was formally mainstreamed into the State Education Cadre on September 2, 2022, following a Cabinet decision on April 21, 2022. However, the teachers allege that despite more than three years since the order, their salaries continue to be drawn under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) funding instead of the State Account Head, which is applicable to other regular state cadre employees.
The NGTA stated that multiple representations and appeals had been made over the years to include their salary component under State Non-Development Expenditure. Having received no concrete response, the association served a final seven-day ultimatum to the Principal Director (DoSE) on February 16, followed by a two-day pen-down strike on February 24 and 25. The issues “remain unresolved.”
The association said it has been left with no option but to stage a “peaceful and democratic protest” from February 26 “until their demand is met.”
