NH-29 at Viswema sees gradual restoration

Kohima, July 22 (DIPR): The landslide at Viswema which completely cut-off NH-29 is being gradually restored. The landslide occurred during the early hours of July 14 affecting not only Southern Angami villages but also the neighbouring state of Manipur.  

On July 22, MLA Er. Kropol Vitsu visited the landslide area. He thanked the PWD, DC, SDO (Civil) Jakhama, Police OC Khuzama, BRO and everyone for their self-less contribution without creating further anxieties to the public and travelers. Other officials present at the site were Principal Secretary Medical, SDO (Civil) Jakhama, Police OC Khuzama, Village Chairman Viswema and Khuzama.  

Viswema Youth Organisation, President Visakho Kiso said that travelers and public, on Saturday, have started crossing through the newly built road by foot. Earlier officials from PWD and BRO inspected the site and expressed hope that by July 23 evening, light vehicles will be able to pass through.  

The VYO President informed that on July 15, following the landslide, 400 volunteers from Viswema Village Council, Viswema Women Organisation, Viswema Youth Organisation and Viswema Student Union swung into action helping travelers carry their luggage and also providing assistance to the old and the sick.  

Till July 17, continuous landslide occurred due to which a new footpath had to be dug; 300 volunteers helped in digging up a new footpath. In all these, some of the worst affected were students. In Viswema alone, 4 government primary school, 2 higher secondary, 2 high school, 1 middle school and 2 colleges were affected.  

Meanwhile, the VYO President thanked the youth organisations from Khuzama, Kidima, Jakhama, SAYO, SASU, Viswema Baptist Khriesarii Krotho, St. Joseph students from Viswema and Khuzama and those who volunteered daily.
