NH-39 bandh call runs into resistance

Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The Chakhroma Public Organization, Chumukedima, has expressed disapproval at the decision of the Highway Area Sumi Students Union, Dimapur to close down National Highway 39, set for August 7, Monday. The students’ organization had called a total closure of NH 39, to press for its demands that Education Minister Imkong Imchen be removed from the Council of Ministers as well as tender  unconditional apology, in regard to alleged misuse of position where he, to accommodate his son, allegedly deprived a JEE merit students of an MBBS seat.

“In our considered opinion, these two demands of HASSU are derivatives of their key demand i.e., cancellation of the nomination of Sentikumba L Imchen and Akhovi Pase which now stands fulfilled. Hence we strongly disapprove such decision (of closing down the NH) to opt for an extreme step which would take the whole society at ransom by flexing one’s muscle and by completely closing down the vital commercial artery connecting Dimapur to the rest of the state and also the rest of the country and that too by a single union who has apparently not consulted with any of the parental organizations that matter” stated a CPO release issued through its General Secretary Zhasa Vupru.

“While acknowledging the genuine rights of the HASSU and appreciating their concern over alleged nepotism and favoritism in the selection of candidates in JEE for MBBS course, we deemed it necessary in the interest of one and all to issue this note of disapproval on their decision to impose 12-hour total closure of NH-39 on August 7 as a means for securing their two specified demands i.e., Imchen’s removal and apology for the controversy” it stated.

The decision to issue the disapproval note has been taken in an emergency meeting of the Chakhroma Public Organization held August 5 in the backdrop of the report pertaining to the proposed bandh, it was added. It may be mentioned that earlier, President of the HASSU Hukugha Tuccu, had informed that the union’s parental organization, the Western Sumi Students Union (WSSU) as well as the Sumi Laghilato Area, Dimapur  have extended their support to the stand to call the proposed bandh.
