NHAK COVID-19 hospital not shifting to Meriema: Dr Suokhrie

Following reports that the government is contemplating shifting the COVID-19 Hospital at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) to Meriema, Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare, Dr Vizolie Suokhrie denied the report as ‘wrong information.’


When contacted, the Principal Director clarified that the COVID-19 Hospital at NHAK will not be shifted anywhere and the existing quarantine centre at Meriema will be converted to COVID Care Centre.


Informing that this conversion was pre-planned, he said, “We will be admitting the people who tested positive but are asymptomatic.”


Dr Suokhrie also informed that there are many blocks in Meriema Quarantine Centre, some of which will be converted to CCC as planned before. 


Meanwhile, according to the COVID-19 dashboard latest update as on June 30, a total of 477 beds are available in COVID Hospitals across the state, 385 beds in isolation wards, 68 in ICUs and 39 ventilators.


The total strength of health workers from the government sector in COVID-19 duty include 534 doctors and 2064 nurses, while the update also shows that 38 doctors and 29 nurses are on leave.
