Zhadima, March 23 (MExN): Under the aegis of National Health Mission, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, World Oral Health Day was observed at Government High School, Zhadima village on March 20. A press release received here stated that the programme was organised by Dental Unit, NHAK under the theme ‘be proud of your mouth.’
The resource person, Dr Neiphrezo Soarünuo, Jr Dental Surgeon, NHAK spoke on the importance of good oral hygiene and the ill effects of tobacco. He apprised how tobacco is causing premature mortality in the world and that “tobacco is the only legally available substance which kills when it is used as intended.” He also cited on the importance of tobacco control by preventing on several evidence-based strategies which can reduce tobacco use and exposure to second-hand smoke.
Dr Neiphrezo informed regarding the four strategies for preventing tobacco user in young people, by eliminating exposure to second-hand smoke and advancing to healthy equity by identifying tobacco related disparities.
Dr Pfukrolo Koza, Jr Dental Specialist, NHAK gave a demonstration on proper brushing techniques.
The Dental Unit, NHAK also organised a painting competition on the theme and altogether 130 students participated in the competition. Closing remarks and prize distribution was given away by Dr Simon I Sumi, District Nodal Officer (NTCP). Free toothbrush, toothpaste and IEC materials on oral hygiene were also distributed.
