Kohima, July 3 (MExN): A one-day training of Sub Centre ANMs under Kohima district on HIV and syphilis was organized by NHM and DAPCU on June 27 at CMO Conference hall, Kohima.
As per a press release from DAPCU Team, Kohima, the welcome address was shared by Dr Thinuohezo, Zonal Leprosy Officer. The basics of HIV/AIDS and Syphilis were shared by Dr Asunu Sakhrie, District TB Officer/DACO, District TB Centre/DAPCU.
Sakhrie shared about HIV, difference between HIV and AIDS, factors affecting progression of HIV infection to AIDS, routes of transmission, how HIV is not transmitted, opportunistic infections, HIV-TB co-infection, SAICTCs, FICTCs, PPP-FICTCs, ART and its benefits, syphilis and its symptoms, congenital syphilis and general guidelines for treatment of pregnant women with syphilis.
Sentimongla Tzudir, District Program Officer, District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit (DAPCU) made a presentation on the basics of PPTCT. She stated that mother to child transmission is the main cause of HIV infection in children and it can occur during: pregnancy, labour and delivery and breastfeeding; goals of PPTCT, factors that decrease risk of transmission of HIV from mother to child.
Tzudir also shared about the essential package of PPTCT services: Routine offer of HIV counseling and testing with ‘opt-out’ option, ensure Involvement of spouse and family members (PW consent), provide ART to HIV positive pregnant women, promote Institutional deliveries of positive pregnant women, provision of Care for STI/RTI, TB and OI, nutritional counseling and psychosocial support to positive pregnant women etc. She further emphasized on lifelong ART for all HIV Positive Pregnant women to prevent Mother-to-Child Transmission and its benefits, PPTCT scenarios at FICTC and the responsibilities of ANM/Staff Nurse.
Basics of counselling was shared by Aoyangla Imchen, Counselor, Mobile ICTC followed by SIMS reporting and maintenance of registers by Vekuvoyi, Program Assistant, DAPCU. Kilangnaro Yaden, Lab Technician, Mobile ICTC, DAPCU gave hands on training on HIV and Syphilis and Hep B and C screening procedure to the participants of the training.
