The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today arrested 4 people in Dimapur, which included two serving top officials and a cashier in the Nagaland State Government and the fourth a retired Director.
In a letter to the Nagaland State Chief Secretary dated October 13, the NIA intimated the former on the arrests made today.
The arrested included a former Director of the Department of Tourism, an Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture, a Joint Director of the Department of Irrigation and a Superintendent/Cashier of the Department of Fisheries.
In the letter, the NIA informed that the arrests were made based on an FIR registered at the NIA Branch Office Guwahati on August 18, 2016 in furtherance of an initial FIR registered by the state police at Sub-Urban police, Dimapur on August 1, 2016. Sections 384 of IPC, 10, 13, 17 and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act read with sections 7 and 8 of NSR, 25(IB) Arms Act and Section 13 of Drugs and Cosmetics Act were cited as the sections under which charges were filed against the four arrested officials.
The NIA letter said that the four accused “were involved in the instant case and have been arrested…” It informed that the four would be produced on the day itself before the Special NIA Court at Dimapur for seeking their custody. The NIA further requested the Chief Secretary to initiate departmental action against the accused.
Meanwhile, the police informed that the Special NIA court granted 3 days remand or custody of the four to NIA sleuths for interrogation. The police added that the arrest of the four was in pursuance of a case registered at the Sub-Urban police station in August 2016. According to the police input, the FIR was filed by the Assam Rifles after a suspected NSCN (K) cadre was apprehended. That particular case was subsequently taken up by the NIA which resulted in the arrests.
