DIMAPUR, JUNE 5 (MExN): The Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation (NIDC) today hoped it would be able to extend its services by reaching out to more people through the support of the government. Focusing on the need to redefine the ‘I’ and the ‘D’ in NIDC, Chairman of the corporation Tiameren said, “Whatever little we have is not sufficient.” He was optimistic that a man of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s “caliber” would look into the case of the agency.
The NIDC can play a big role during the “Year of the Farmer” by assisting entrepreneurs and farmers alike, he said. Terming the “Look East” policy of the Centre as important and vital for growth, the BJP MLA said the agency could involve itself in the programs shelled out by Delhi. He mentioned the coming up of International Trade Centres in the region.
He further spoke of the need for reformation in the management of NIDC in working towards the uplift of the Naga economy. Tiameren had this morning held consultations with the top brass of the agency “to work out a future vision of NIDC.” The need to convince the government to recognize the mandate and statutes of the corporation in order to generate employment was also touched upon.
At present the NIDC finances only ‘tiny-scale’ industries. However, it was informed that the Small Industries Development Bank of India is stretching a hand forward. Rural housing financing and the building of more hotels are being mulled.
