
Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): The Jorhat District Administration PC has declared night curfew under Section 144 of the Cr (8pm to 5am) within the radius of five km along the Assam-Nagaland border in the district.
The order, issued by the Jorhat district magistrate on September 26 stated that the measure has been taken in view of “apprehension of militants trying to sneak into the district to carry out subversive activities,” The Assam Tribune reported.
“The order further said that the night curfew will be in force until further order by the district magistrate in this regard,” it said, adding, “Security force personnel, magistrates and employees of the Forest department deployed in the border areas have been exempted from the night curfew.”
Meanwhile, the report further informed that the Jorhat district magistrate, apprehending breach of peace and tranquillity and danger to human life and property, has imposed Section 144 Cr PC in the entire district.
According to the order, the assembly of five or more persons with the common object of picketing or taking out procession, holding meetings at public places, training in public places by way of drills, training in lathis, weapons; carrying or possession of explosives or any lethal weapons including lathis, stones, bows and arrows in public places have been prohibited, it added.
