Nightwarriors Pungro win Saramati Soccer Championship

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 16 (MExN): Nighwarriors Pungro won the 14th edition of the Saramati Soccer Championship 2022, the valedictory function for which was held at 12:00 noon on December 16. They defeated Surayin FC in the final. 

The match was tightly fought between Surayin FC and Nightwarriors Pungro. And eventually the Nightwarriors emerged as Champions surpassing Surayin with a goal to nought. The skipper of Nightwarriors Pungro scored the decider for the tourney. 

Khalenmew Yimchunger, former Church & Mission Secretary of YBBA graced the occasion as special guest. The special guest before he began his speech pleaded the congregation for a silent prayer in honour of Lt. T Torechu, former MLA as the date marked his 3rd death anniversary. He further lauded the organizing committee of the 14th Saramati Soccer Championship 2022 and appealed the gathering of the need to change the perception about sports. 

L Samuel, Convenor, SNC delivered the keynote address while Tsuyihba, Pastor, Pungro Town Baptist Church invoked blessings for the event and Tsulenla, presented a song. The programme was chaired by Throngso, President, SNC.

The winners were awarded Rs 70000 while the runners up received Rs 40000. The losing semifinalists were awarded Rs 10000 each. Other individual awards included Best Young Player: Rokhum (Pungro Vikings); Golden Glove: Toso (Nightwarriors Pungro); Golden Boot: Shotsangba (Surayin FC); and Golden Ball: Johnny (Nightwarriors Pungro).
