
Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Indigenous People's Forum (NIPF) today condemned what it alleged as “duo murder attempts” of Nagas by non-locals.”
The first incident was in March 9 when two accused - Naveen Kumar Singh and Papu Dharam Singh allegedly “attempted to murder” Yetovi Zhimomi in Zukihe Village under Niuland district, the Forum stated in a press release.
The second incident occurred on March 18 when Kumughato, an auto driver was allegedly assaulted by two assailants Amir Hussain and Azarad Ali in Pimla village, it said.
‘This is not the first or second instance where non-locals have committed such heinous and unforgivable crimes and time has come for us to act before Nagaland becomes another Tripura,’ the NIPF maintained. It further requested the law enforcement agencies to award befitting punishment as per the law of the land and “strictly warned”against ‘bailing out’ the accused under any circumstances.
Any individual or group doing soshall be solely responsible if any ugly situation occurs, it said.
Further claiming the indigenous people is facing ‘threat,’ the NIPF urged the Government of Nagaland to strictly implement inner-line permit (ILP) in the whole of Nagaland to safeguard and protect the rights of innocent indigenous people.
With "Identity, Rights, Preservation" as its motto, the Forum stands to “protect, preserve and promote the rights, property, identity, customs, culture and tradition of the indigenous people of Nagaland,” it added.
