Niuland citizens decry miserable road condition

Dimapur, July 24 (MExN): Voicing out its grievances concerning the “impassable & miserable road from Patkai-Sietekhema-Shouba,” the Niuland Area Citizen Forum (NACF) today said that Department & Administrator concern has “no sense of responsibility.”

Due to recent collapse of 4th Mile Bridge, the people residing beyond the bridge are traversing through the said road. It is with the deepest regret that the Department & Administrator concern has no sense of responsibility, said a press statement from NACF President Kakishe Sumi & General Secretary Khuvishe Hollo.

“The road supposed to be repaired immediately as per the DC Order with the directive from R&B Department right after the bridge collapsed is still in a worst condition,” it said.

“Just to satisfy the public, one JCB was detailed/Instructed to filled the pot holes with mud which infact had become worst with a monsoon shower. It has put things in worst shape,” it further alleged.   As a result NACF maintained that the resident are in a “deep distress” and repeated expression of their resentment through press goes unheard.

“The Administrator, (DC) and the Department concern assured to take necessary action in this matter but so far all the assurance is in vain.”

As the condition deteriorates, all vehicles passing though the road have to halt “after every five six minutes” to adjust with potholes and in some places, dig the road to ply, NACF further claimed adding, it is difficult even to walk and traveling especially in the night time is dangerous.

“The Present status of road condition is totally unacceptable, and untimely rain will again invite disheartening situation,” it said.   In this regard, the NACF also alleged that the department never bothered about the problem faced by the citizen and the worst sufferers are the students, as number of colleges and schools are located in the those areas.

Arguing that proper road infrastructure is a right for the citizen and “by no way should the people suffer due to lack of good quality road condition,” the Forum said that if any damage is caused to the local infrastructure & school children, “the Department & Administration concern will be held responsible whatsoever and we the citizen will not hesitate to bring any action.”

“We therefore request the responsible authority to get the road constructed/repaired from Patkai-Sietekhema-Shouba road without any further delay lest the anger of the public explodes,” it added.
