Niuland DC issues monsoon advisory

Niuland, July 6 (MExN): In view of the onset of the monsoon and persistent heavy rainfall over the past few days, which is likely to continue, the Deputy Commissioner of Niuland has issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution.

All fishing, recreational, and non-essential activities along rivers, streams, and water bodies have been restricted due to the risk of flash floods and rising water levels, it said.

Residents living near riverbanks, low-lying areas, and water bodies have been advised to stay alert and evacuate to safer areas if water levels rise while public was also cautioned against fishing in overflowing drains and streams due to the increased risk of drowning and accidents.

As flood-affected areas face a higher risk of waterborne diseases,  the advisory called for necessary precautions while  citizens were requested to report any loss of life or property to their respective Area Administrative Officers through the concerned village councils.

For emergencies, the public may contact the State Emergency Operation Centre (1070/toll-free, 0370-2291120/22), State Disaster Response Force (9366819486/7005806182), or DDMA Niuland (7005047510), it added.
