The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Secretariat has now started functioning in the New Assembly Complex from today. Talking to The Morung Express from his office chamber at the New Complex today, NLA Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie termed the location as “Very good and beautiful.” “This is the prestige of the state government and we are very proud and happy to have such a beautiful building,” the speaker said.

On being queried about the transportation to the new complex, Peseyie said that it will be requiring more buses for the staff, for which necessary arrangement will be made. “We have effectively occupied the new complex today with a prayer meeting led by Rev. Mhathung, pastor Lotha Baptist Church, Kohima,” said N. Benjamin Newmai, secretary NLA Secretariat. The new assembly complex, covering assembly hall, assembly secretariat and legislators’ home, was inaugurated on April 25 last.

“May it become a hallowed institution, from where the true voices of the people are expressed and heard, from there fair play and justice flows out, and from where the state draws its inspirations and directions for speedy growth and development,” Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was quoted as saying during the dedication ceremony of the new complex.

Nagaland Assembly has now completed 43 years of existence. The present assembly is the 10th assembly. The first session was held on March 22, 1964 in the makeshift hall in the premises of old Kohima Art College, which was addressed by the first Governor of Nagaland Vishnu Sahay. In that session, TN Angami was elected as the first speaker.
