The 1st day of the 14th session of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) got over in 27 minutes after completing the business listed for the day. The session started at 9:30am and ended by 9:57am. The session will resume on November 24.
CM announce Rs. 10 lakh for Kanpur train accident
Making a statement in the session, Nagaland Chief Minister, TR Zeliang expressed shock and grief at the November 20 train crash near Kanpur, where 14 coaches of the Indore- Patna Express derailed killing nearly 150 people. Expressing his condolences to the bereaved families, the CM announced contribution of Rs 10 lakh to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. The House also observed two minutes of silence in remembrance of those killed in the accident.
33% women reservation
With regard to 33% women’s reservation in Urban Local Bodies, Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs, Economics & Statistics, R Tohanba moved a government resolution for revoking the September 22, 2012 resolution passed by the NLA exempting Nagaland from the application of Part IX A of the Constitution of India.
Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Chotisuh Sazo said the consideration and passing of this resolution will be taken up on November 24. Amendments, if any, can be submitted on November 23 till 12:00 noon.
Tenure of committee on Nagaland Lokyukta Bill extended
The House extended the tenure of the select committee on the Nagaland Lokyukta Bill 2015 with the instructions to present its report within six months. The committee is headed by Er Levi Rengma as chairman and with R Tohanba, C Apok Jamir, Pukhayi and Dr TM Lotha as members.
Nagaland municipal (3rd Amendment) Bill 2016 introduced
The House introduced Nagaland Municipal (Third Amendment) Bill 2016 after it was moved by Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs, Economics & Statistics, R Tohanba. The NLA speaker told the House that the consideration and passing of this resolution will be taken up on November 24. Amendment, if any, can be submitted on November 23 till 12:00 noon.
