NLA speaker Sazo visits Himachal Pradesh

Kohima, June 27 (MExN): Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Chotisuh Sazo along with the Commissioner and Secretary, Additional Secretary and other technical staff of NLA visited Shimla, Himachal Pradesh from June 26 to 27 to get an overview and functioning of the eVidhan (Electronic application in the functioning of Legislative Assembly).   Sazo held interaction with the speaker Brij Behari Lal Butail on the functioning of the eVidhan, which was established three years ago. Thereafter, the technical team demonstrated the functioning of eVidhan to the visiting team.   The technology provides information to the members, be it rules and procedures, proceedings of the assembly, answered questions etc at instant click of the system. The eVidhan provides faster and secure communication to the members and different departments. Besides, it minimises the expenditure on the cost of papers and other materials. Further, it maintains transparency and accountability in governance.   The eVidhan also links legislators with his/her constituency and different departments. It also monitors the developmental activities in their respective constituencies and above all, it builds an informed society.   The team also visited the e-Facilities which consist of technical help desk, e-constituency, video conferencing, computerised typing work, email, House digital video clip, training centre, data based centre, electronic assistance booth made available separately for the ruling bench and the opposition.

  Earlier, Sazo had submitted a detailed project proposal to the Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Communication and Information Technology Ministry Government of India in an effort to digitise the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 2014. As the project demanded for replication of best practices which eVidhan Himachal Pradesh is a trendsetter, a revised project proposal on the line of eVidhan Himachal Pradesh model was resubmitted to the Ministry, informed a release from Benjamin Newmai, Commissioner and Secretary, NLA. If the project materializes, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly will go paperless.   In this light, a visit to eVidhan Himachal Pradesh to get a feel of its functioning was necessitated, the release added.
