NLA Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer has been elected as the new Chairman of CPA, India Region Zone III and President, NERIPSTR on May 10.
Guwahati, May 10 (MExN): The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer has been elected as the new Chairman of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region Zone III and President, NERIPSTR. Longkumer was elected to the post during the Joint Meeting of the Executive Committee, CPA, India region, Zone III, and the Executive Council, NERIPSTR held in the New Assembly Building of Assam Legislative Assembly, Guwahati on May 10.
In a press release, Khruohituonuo Rio, Secretary-in-Charge, NLA stated that both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of NLA attended the meeting. oone of the key agendas listed was for the Selection/Election of the new Chairman for CPA India Region Zone III and President, NERIPSTR. The Speaker of Nagaland, Sharingain Longkumer was proposed by the Speaker of Sikkim Arun Kumar Upreti and seconded by the Speaker of Tripura Biswa Bandhu Sen for the Chairmanship and Presidential posts, it stated.
‘The house reached to a consensus decision to elect the Speaker of Nagaland as the new Chairman of CPA India Region Zone III and President, NERIPSTR for the coming tenure i.e. for a period of two years,’ the release stated.
Thereafter, handing and taking over the charge was concluded through a brief statement from the new Chairman and President where he extended his gratitude for the support and opportunity to serve the association. He also reflected on the milestones achieved under the leadership of the outgoing Chairman, Pasang D Sona, Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Secretary, NLA will also be taking the charge as Secretary, CPA India Region Zone III.
