NLSF charges author of 'racism, cultural appropriation'

Kohima, November 24 (MExN):  The Nagaland Law Students' Federation (NLSF) today charged an author of using “blatant racism, cultural appropriation, harmful and or offensive tropes or stereotypes by all possible language to libel different tribes and the Naga identity.” A press release from the Federation identified that the author as Debarati Mukhopadhyay and the allegation were based on her Bengali language book titled, "Debaratir Sera Thriller."

“The Nagas are deeply disheartened with the phrase used by the Author on P-14, 15, 19 & 22,” the NLSF said which allegedly portrayed existence of cannibalism.

The NLSF condemned the “malice act” of the author for fallaciously documenting the Naga culture in all hasty without proper exploration or fact-findings, it said.

“The Federation is on firm standpoint that, no human race in this modernity would have still practice such tradition and custom as part of culture. Mayhap, in less probability, were places or regions which is not affected by civilization or has been reached could be of the reason,” it opined.

Quoting with such phrase to the Naga identify is a diabolical belief of the author, it added.

Accordingly, the NLSF stated that if the documentation of Naga identity is not rectified in the book, the Federation would take legal recourse against the author.
