As a part of the Nagaland Law Students’ Federation’s (NLSF) Fair Election campaign, which was launched on February 2 in Kohima, the NLSF led by its president visited Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung today.
NLSF president Imliben Lemtur briefed the students on the aims and objectives of the campaign and said that the awareness campaigns are organised with an aim to sensitize the people on the concept of fair elections starting from the grassroots level.
Addressing as the main speaker at the campaign, LH Thangi Manen encouraged the students to fight for their right to cast their own vote and to be aware of their rights. She strongly opposed the setting up of youth camps during elections saying that all illegal and malpractices originate there.
Talking about the mission of Clean Election campaign, Thangi Manen said that the clean election campaign was to stop buying and selling of votes, to raise the level of consciousness and commitment of the people and to show people that they can make a difference.
Talks on awareness and legal provisions regarding election in the constitution and other related topics were given by different members of the NLSF. The students also participated in the discussion hour raising several questions and clearing their doubts. The NLSF started the Fair Election campaign with a hope of sensitizing the people on the concept of fair and clean election and has no political agenda whatsoever, it was relayed. The team will be visiting villages in Mokokchung district in the next few days.
