DIMAPUR, JUNE 15 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has urged the State Government to reconsider its decision of transferring the incumbent DGP of Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, who, the Federation stated, is a man known for his integrity, honesty and a role model for the youth.
In a press release, the Federation maintained that the government’s decision to transfer Sharma is in conflict with the sentiments of the public, who wants him to continue his role as the DGP of Nagaland.
The Federation stated that Sharma was a capable and dynamic officer whose performances outweigh the seniority issue in the eye of the public. His reforms and revamp of the police department, improving its image and standards and tendering open advertisement for appointments on merit basis are more than admirable, it stated.
Moreover, the Federation stated that the public want a people’s DGP and not a DGP of political choices. The Federation also termed it as immature the statement of branding and tagging the Sharma as inexperienced when he has served Nagaland Police in various capacities as SDPO, Additional SP, SP and DIG in the state.
Furthermore, the Federation pointed out that the transfer of the incumbent DGP would be in direct violation of the Supreme Court judgment which has fixed a two-year tenure for officers of the three premier services — IAS, IPS and IFoS, to avoid political pressures, misuse of officers and unwanted transfers and to enable him/her to discharge the responsibilities in a professional manner.
