
Dimapur, December 7 (MExN): With the initiative of the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Madan B Lokur, the Vice Chancellor of National Law University Delhi (NLUD) has agreed to conduct the short-term exchange studies programme for the students of Kohima law College at the university. The president of Nagaland Voluntary Consumer Organisation (NVCO) Kezhokhoto Savi at the meeting held with the Chief Justice at Raj Bhavan on December 6 said: “…Chief Justice is having genuine concern for the law students of North Eastern region.”
In a press note issued by the NVCO president stated that the Kohima Law College students will be provided hospitality throughout the stay in the early part of February 2011. The students of Kohima Law College will be attending classes and all other activities with the university students.
Moreover, NVCO with the department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection will be conducting a Consumer Rights awareness programmes in view of the National Consumer Day, with theme: “Assert Your Rights” in the state.
Stressing on the significance of National Consumer Day, the NVCO president in the note stated: “The 24th December is observed as the National Consumer Day every year. The significance of the 24th December is that on this day in the year 1986 the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 received assent of the President of India. The Consumer Protection Act 1986 is considered to be a historic milestone in the consumer movement in the country.”
In view of the day, the NVCO and Kohima Law College is conducting a legal awareness programme-cum-welcome to Justice Madan B Lokur, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court on December 9, 1:30 pm at Hotel Japfu, Kohima. The Justice will have interaction with the students as the main resourced person.
Further, the NVCO will be conducting a general meeting with Maple Society, Chumukedima Town Council, Consumer Society Dimapur and public on December 8 at Chumukedima. The meeting will discuss how to protect and promote consumers’ rights in the town. The president of NVCO will be the main speaker, the note said.
It also informed that it will be releasing a DVD highlighting consumer problems with its “remedies and rights” under the Consumer Protection Act 1986, which will be telecast on Doordashan, Kohima and local cable operators through out the state during the Christmas season. On December 24 with the rest of the country, Nagaland will also observe the National Consumer Day. Several programmes and activities will be conducted till the Christmas eve.
