NMA appeals to Governor to ensure justice in RTE

October 24, Kohima (MExN): In a representation to the Governor of Nagaland, the Naga Mothers’  Association (NMA) has asked for his immediate intervention into the on-going agitation launched by the Selected Graduate and Primary Teachers 2012, in all the District Headquarters in Nagaland. The letter from NMA Education Committee Convenor, Rosemary Dzuvichu, and NMA President, Abei-u Meru, has also appealed to selected graduate and primary teachers to withdraw their agitation till the court hearing.

“The Selected Teachers must be immediately appointed after the Court Hearing in the interest of our school going children as well as these young people who have chosen the noble profession of teaching,” requested the NMA. The NMA has questioned the concerned department on “the in-ordinate delay of appointing these teachers which has resulted in unnecessary legal entanglements”. It has reiterated that the department must give due cognizance and consideration to ‘trained teachers’ as per the RTE Act. All efforts, said NMA, must be made by government lawyers to ensure that the matter is cleared by the High Court as a Relaxation Order has also been obtained from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi.

Moreover, the NMA has appealed to unsuccessful B.Ed. candidates, who are also petitioners, to withdraw and concentrate on qualifying and clearing the next eligibility examination conducted by the State.

The NMA hopes that the Governor will take the initiative to ensure justice by appointing these qualified Selected Teachers at the earliest and protect school children’s right to education in all the districts of Nagaland.
