NMA notice to govt; demands early adoption of draft women policy

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 19 (MExN): An Emergency Executive Meeting of the Naga Mothers’ Association was held at Kohima on the August 17 last, to discuss various issues, including the non-adoption of the Draft on “Nagaland State Women Empowerment Policy of 2006”, despite repeated reminders and request, which was also reportedly turned down by the State Cabinet on a couple of occasions.

In this regard, the meeting viewed with all seriousness, the callous attitude of the Government of Nagaland, when it is not adopting the Draft Policy on Women even after a full fledged Nagaland Women Commission has been instituted, with a duly appointed Chairman and Members of the said Commission. Therefore, the NMA through the deliberation of the Executive Meeting, urged the Government to adopt the Draft on “Nagaland State Women Empowerment Commission, 2006” without further delay. The NMA in a press note issued by its President Khesheli Chishi hoped that a positive response from the government would help “restore the trust and confidence of the women of Nagaland which have begun to wane in the recent past and as of now”.

The NMA also reached out to all Naga mothers/women to rise up to any call of duty towards enhancement of Women Empowerment should any necessity arise in the event the State Government fails to live up to the expectation of the Naga women, particularly in this issue, while pointing out that this is “only a natural duty of any Government in today’s contemporary world”.
