NMA serves ultimatum to NU authorities over result fiasco

Dimapur, June 10 (MExN): Noting the erroneous degree results declared by Nagaland University recently, the Naga Mothers Association (NMA) today set before Vice Chancellor BK Konwar a number of demands.

The demands include ‘immediate declaration of correct results’, stripping responsibility off Controller of Examination Prof. Pardesi Lal, termination of the contract with the web application firm Infratel Mindlogics and an FIR against it, and reversion to the earlier ‘manual system of examination.’

The NMA wrote a letter today to the NU vice chancellor spelling out the demands. The organization said to have met in an emergency meeting on June 2 and said the Vice Chancellor and the Controller of Examination must bear full responsibility for the “lack of seriousness and destruction of our children’s careers” by being witness to “the repeated fiasco of declaration of wrong results.”

The NMA also censured the web application firm. The organization lamented that NU would do business with Infratel MindLogicx, which is based all the way in Bangalore and “whose staff can barely speak English” would process question papers and proofread confidential items. The NMA also denounced the ‘shifting of blame.’

Listing out its demands, the NMA has asked the Vice Chancellor o strip Controller of Examination Prof. Pardesi Lal of his responsibilities for the fiasco. A person of “expertise and experience” must be appointed to ‘sort out the examination problems,’ the NMA said.

The contract with Infratel Mindlogics must be immediately terminated, another demand said. This is the third consecutive year that the firm has “destroyed the career of our children by the faulty online examination system” the NMA said. The contract was inked by the previous VC, Prof. K Kannan and one which is under the scanner of the Chief Vigilance Commissioner of Delhi. The previous year, Tenyidie students were unable to appear their examinations following jumbled question papers and “failure to recognize the language by computer.”

Further, the NMA has demanded that the Vice Chancellor immediately lodge an FIR with the Superintendent of Police (Crime) against Infratel MindLogics and former vice chancellor Prof. K Kannan for repeated wrong results.

Nagaland University’s authorities are also asked to review the online examination system immediately and revert to the previous ‘manual system’ which did not create any controversies. “NMA has serious reports of irregularities under online correction of scripts, online question papers with grammatical mistakes and wrong questions, jumbled question paper in Tenyidie language 2011 etc which is proof that the firm is unable to deliver services and the university cannot afford to pay with the future of our children like this,” the organization state din its letter. The memorandum was appended by president of NMA Abeiu Meru and general secretary Lochumbeni Humtsoe.
