NMSA stands for unbiased opportunity for every medical graduate

Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): The Nagaland Medical Students’ Association (NMSA) has expressed dismay over the recent “hasty decisions taken in appointment and regularization of Medical Officers without appearing the NPSC exam defying proper norms.”

While understanding the need of special measures in current times, the association stands for fair and unbiased opportunity for every medical graduate, asserted the NMSA in a press statement issued by its president, Kuveluzo Chizo.

The Association lamented that the ongoing pandemic has revealed many lapses in the health care system of our state and the shortage of medical health workers since time immemorial has yet again resulted in chaos. “The urgent need for trained health care providers and hasty decisions taken to bridge the gap has resulted in dismay from many quarters,” it stated.

While acknowledging the shortage of doctors in the public sector and many PHC functioning without Medical Officers, NMSA also mentioned that there are more than 350 non-government MBBS doctors with 250 plus MBBS graduates vying for a handful of Medical Officer posts through NPSC exams when conducted and approximately 300 undergoing the course in various medical colleges across the country and abroad.

“There is no dearth of doctors in our state and if given the opportunity to serve the public, no doctor will back away from the responsibility expected of him/her. With no new post creation and high competition for coveted permanent government jobs, it is to be mentioned that only around 104 Medical Officers were appointed through NPSC and contract regularization since 2011,” the Association added.
The NMSA, therefore vouch for fair and equal opportunity for every medical graduate through competitive NPSC exam.
