NMYO condemns alleged assault on five youth

Kohima, June 28 (MExN): The New Market Youth Organization (NMYO) has expressed anguish at the alleged “barbaric and inhuman act perpetrated on five innocent youth of the colony by a group of ruffians” at Box Cutting near War Cemetery, Kohima at 6:30 pm on June 24.

According to the press release issued by NMYO, President, Andrew Tepa, the incident occurred when six youths were reportedly “sniffing contraband marijuana (Ganja) at the Box cutting and were found to be provoking passersby.” Tepa said, “The five New Market youths who were on a regular stroll to the Raj Bhavan area were confronted by this gangster who in their narco-substance trip started thrashing them without any rhyme and reason causing grievous injuries.”

‘It was seer God’s providence that few vigil citizens arrived at the scene and rescued the youths while also apprehending the perpetrators and later handing them over to the Police,’ he added. 

“Such evil and merciless act committed by youths in which three of the accused happened to be juvenile underscore the darker side of the society and questions the parenting of the children as well,” the NMYO president observed. 

The organisation also observed that ‘of late, the Box Cutting has become a notorious den where drinks, drug abuse and all immoral activities takes place and the irony is that the location falls within the parameter of high security zone.’ In September 2015, a young promising footballer who played for the New Market B Team was also beaten to death by nine youths at the same location, it added.

Meanwhile, the NMYO has urged upon the District Administration to install proper lightning of the area and also initiate regular police patrolling.
