Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): The Naga National Council (NNC) has called upon Naga people in the homeland and across the world to observe Naga National Martyrs’ Day on October 18 , in remembrance of those who “sacrificed their lives for the cause of Naga sovereignty.”
In an appeal issued through its Information and Publicity Wing, the NNC described the observance as a “national obligation and duty of every Naga” to honour the thousands of martyrs who, it stated, laid down their lives in the struggle for Naga freedom from 1952 to the present.
It said their sacrifices remained an enduring part of Naga national history and should not be forgotten by future generations.
The NNC urged the Naga people to observe the day with “solemn dignity, unity and earnest prayer”, while seeking God’s blessings and strength to continue the pursuit of what it termed the Naga people’s “legitimate historical and political rights”.
It also called for the observance to be held in unity, including among Nagas living abroad and in Naga-inhabited territories, to honour the sacrifices of those who died in the struggle and uphold their legacy.
