Dimapur, Dec 3 (MExN): The Naga National Council (NNC) has condemned the observance of ‘Indian statehood’ December 1 “as this is an imposed statehood on the Nagas in complete violation of the Naga rights of the declaration of the Naga Independence on 14th August 1947(one day before the declaration of Indian Independence) and the Naga plebiscite of 1951 on 16th May of 99% voted for the Naga freedom as a Nation in particular and the complete breach of the international law in general.”
The NNC through its General Secretary Vizosielhou Nagi, stated that the Nagas were suppressed and oppressed as a nation in 1963 on the mentioned day by the Government of India with her armed forces against the ‘mandated Naga national political organization’ NNC and the Federal Government of Nagaland.
“Therefore, the NNC strongly condemned this statehood in 1963 and even today also the NNC condemn strongly the celebration of this statehood on this day” it stated. The NNC however extended warm welcome to all foreign tourists who have come to witness the rich culture of the Nagas on the occasion of the ongoing Hornbill festival. The NNC wished all the foreign guests a very happy stay in Nagaland during this festive season.
At the same time, the NNC also reminded all the foreign guests to “see the Indian army camps surrounded the whole of the capital city of Kohima and also throughout the national highway wherever you travel”.
The land is occupied by the Indian Army throughout the length and breadth of western Nagaland and the “Free Eastern Nagaland” by the Military Junta of Myanmar, the NN stated while wishing the people a very happy Christmas and New Year.
