NNC Martyrs’ Day Speech

Dear Naga People,
I am once again honoured to address you and remember the Martyrs who sacrificed everything including their lives for the freedom of the Nagas. Today, the 18th October 2010, is our 58th Naga National Martyrs’ Day, which should be observed solemnly in the Homeland and abroad by each and every Naga. I pay my sincere homage to all those who stood for their principles and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Naga people to live as other sovereign Nations of the World do. I salute them all and their family members on this National Martyrs’ Day once again on behalf of the Naga National Council.

The NNC, being the Parent Body of the Nagas, has voiced and promoted all the historical and political rights of the Naga Homeland and campaigned tirelessly for political freedom. Based on these hallowed rights, the Naga political issue has become unique and supported by one and all.

And also the Naga National Political Groups have agreed to unite on the basis of the historical and political rights of the Nagas. And this clear political stand of the Naga people for freedom must be recognised by one and all, Govt. of India and Myanmar and the World at large.

Today, I must also say that the NNC policy of Non-Violence is appreciated by everyone in the Homeland and abroad. And this is the best political strategy for the Naga people to achieve permanent peace in the Naga Homeland.

The NNC have supported unconditional unity amongst the Naga Political Groups as this is essential for the betterment of the Naga people in general and the Political Groups in particular. It is always better for the Groups to sit face to face directly in order to talk and thrash out the differences and work out the modalities democratically in relation to local and global factors. The world is such that we have to adopt the best political stand to get international support for the freedom of the Naga people because the present world scenario is changing very fast politically and international support is a must if we are to achieve our goals.

I must also express my gratitude on behalf of the NNC especially to the believers around the world who have been praying to God Almighty for the success of the Naga reconciliation and unity in the Homeland.

But at the same time, it is also a shame on the part of the Naga Political Groups to remain divided up to the present time and not fully united in reality.

The NNC is planning to appeal to some genuine and impartial organizations in the outside world to take on reconciliation of the Naga National Political Groups if the present efforts towards unity remain uncertain and inconclusive. This will be done in the best interests of the Naga people and the salvation of the Homeland.

Today, I am also sad to say that there are two or three old timers among the National Workers who refused to shoulder responsibility during troubled days and who never attend NNC Executive meetings. Meanwhile they are making mischief and trying their best to capture power in the Parent Body (NNC) of the Nagas. The result of their actions is to create confusion in the minds of freedom lovers by issuing false propaganda at this crucial stage of reconciliation and unity initiatives. The present leadership are patiently tolerating their behaviour and baseless propaganda campaigns but there is always a limit; the NNC will expose them and their history if they continue their nefarious activities which are totally against the National interest in general and the NNC in particular. These activities must be stopped otherwise their shameful secrets will be exposed for all to see.

The Naga National interest and freedom is above all, and the NNC will be always hold this line and stand for the Naga freedom for all in the Homeland. The true and right stand will always win the political race of the Nagas.
Kuknalim.

Kiumukam Yimchungru,
Vice President,
