Dimapur, May 30 (MExN): The NNC today said it will not attend the scheduled June reconciliation meeting convened by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation in Thailand. A local newspaper had carried a story today listing out the Naga armed groups that were supposedly to attend the June 1st to 8th convention in Thailand. The NNC said it was never informed or invited by the forum and that the group had “come to know from the newspaper at this eleventh hour.” A communiqué appended by vice president of the NNC Kiumukam Yimchungrii was received here today. It clarified that the council, in connection with the Chiangmai meeting, was “never informed or invited by the FNR” and could come to know only “from the newspaper at this eleventh hour”. The NNC also claimed that it was “always look down upon by the FNR even in the past and till date regarding such meetings for Naga reconciliation” and “therefore, the NNC will not attend the meeting or convention called by the FNR”. While stating to be regretting this statement, the council said “we have been observing for quite sometime the initiative taken by the FNR and their attitude towards the NNC who stood for non-violence and worked for Naga peace and unity for many years in the past”. “If FNR can really bring reconciliation amongst the Naga national groups leaving behind the NNC, the NNC will always say that that is bias and incomplete” it added.
