NNC Pochury Regional Council President responds

This press statement is being issued by the undersigned in response to the press release issued by the self-styled Secretary (in-charge) of the Pochury Regional Council, NNC, Mr. Victor M. Fithu and Mr. Tingo, Vice-President (in-charge), that appeared in local dailies on May 26, 2009, wherein it has been stated that I have been terminated from active service of the NNC on various grounds as cited therein. However, I wish to categorically make clear to one and all that the allegations as made by them are nothing but false statements aimed at tarnishing my image. Moreover, it is to be noted here that neither of them are members of the NNC as claimed by them. While the former is the Midan Peyu of the FGN, Pochury Region, the latter is not associated in any way with the activities of the NNC. Therefore, the so- called ‘termination order” as issued by them is also totally unconstitutional as Mr. Victor and Mr. Tingo themselves are not the competent authority to execute an important decision of such nature, the responsibility of which lies in the Central Government of the NNC. Hence, the question of my being terminated from active national service does not arise.

The reason for prompting Mr. Victor to issue such a desperate and irresponsible statement lies in my taking objection to certain decisions of his some 5 months back. It was in February 2009 that Mr. Victor purchased a vehicle (Bolero) with government fund much against my wishes, which in my opinion should be spent on purchasing arms and ammunitions. I, as a very simple national worker, do not see any good reason in having to possess a vehicle when other more important issues need to addressed. Today, the vehicle is being used by him for no gainful purposes other than providing him luxury. It was against this backdrop that drove him to instigate me in order to mislead the public. In spite of my weaknesses and many shortcomings as any other human being, I do always try to give my best to the cause of national service. Instead of trying to act as a “judge” of my iniquities he should rather be ashamed of his materialistic tendencies. His affluent lifestyle at the expense of government fund leaves little scope for development of the larger national and regional interest. And as against the laws of the national government of the NNC, he also openly participates in state politics. These and many other various reasons are squarely responsible for defection of a large number of its own cadres to opposite NSCN camps. Not to say the least, way back in 2003 he was suspended for a period of 3 years for serving a demand notice on one administrative officer. It was at my behest that he was reinstated to FGN in the year 2005. Such is the questionable moral character of the said person who in his desperate attempt to mislead the public is pointing finger at me.

It is also to be mentioned here that the claim of Mr. Tingo as the Vice-President (in-charge) of the Pochury Regional Struggle, NNC is highly questionable. I, as the President of the Pochury Regional Council, am the sole competent authority when it comes to matter of recruitment and appointment to Pochury Region, NNC. To my knowledge Mr. Tingo is not associated with the NNC in any way nor have I issued any approval order for his recruitment and approval to the said post.

In the light of the above stated clarifications I do hereby strongly disclaim the charge sheet framed against me and also the consequent termination from national service. It is nothing but a desperate attempt aimed at tarnishing my image in order to serve their own selfish interest. I am very much in active national service with the same vigor and commitment as when I first joined 11 years back.

Y. Lutsütu,
President
Pochury Regional Council, NNC
