NNC veteran late Lakhum Yimchunger laid to rest

Dimapur, April 23 (MExN): The founding member of Naga National Council (NNC) and War General of the first Naga Independence War (1955-57),  M. Lakhum Yimchunger was born on the June 2, 1877 and died at the age of 134years.
The funeral service was attended by Yimchunger Tribal Council, Yimchunger Akheru Arihako, Yimchunger Women Organisation, intellectuals, Public leaders, NNC workers, regional authorities and thousands of the public. During the funeral service, the Yimchungeris saluted the departed leader for his extra ordinary contribution towards the public and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. In a note received here, the NNC, Yimchunger region conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
The note also informed that late Lakhum was blessed with nine sons, seven daughters, 16 granchildren and 46 great grandchildren. He was baptized in 1950 and appointed as DB Tuensang in 1950-55, he was elected War Leader Naga Peoples Convention under the leadership of Phizo in 1954. The first Naga Independence War was declared in 1955 at Huker village and the nagas killed the Indian Army with daos and spears under the command of the late Lakhum.
Late Lakhum served as War General from 1954-57. He was the president of Yimchunger Tribal Council from 1957-69. He also served as the Vice- President of NNC (non accordist) from 2000-2003. Till his last breathe, late  M. Lakhum was the "Custodian (Warlord)" of NNC to which he was appointed in 2004. The note was issued by K.Luyanba, Medampeyu, NNC, Yimchunger region.

Parliamentary Secretary, Information & Public Relations
R. Tohanba, Parliamentary Secretary, Information & Public Relations, condoled the demise of  late M. Lakhum Yimchunger. In a note received here the parliamentary secretary, stated that late M.Lakhum Yimchunger was a pioneer among the Yimchungers and was also the first Christian from his village. He was a man with great leadership qualities who joined NNC in 1953 and worked for the nation till his last breath. The note stated also that late Yimchunger was a very sincere and dedicated leader who served the community in various capacities. Tohanba further extended his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for the soul to rest in peace.

The Angami Regional Council, NNC has mourned the demise of late M Lakhum Yimchungrt, who passed away on Thursday. “On the onset of Naga national movement he worked as a close associate of late Dr AZ Phizo in mobilization of Naga national movement in Eastern Nagaland. The region conveyed condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace,” stated a condolence note issued by the president of Angami Regional Council, NNC,
Chosel Angami.
