DIMAPUR, AUGUST 13 (MExN): In commemoration of Naga Independence declared on 14th August 1947, national groups of different factions have issued messages to remember the day. NNC President Adinno Phizo in her message reminded people that despite the continuance of aggression by India, God was the comforter who had shielded the Naga nation against the forces of evil that set to destroy the existence of Nagaland. “Nothing can deter the Nagas from asserting the right to exist as a free nation”, Adinno stated in her statement from London.
Taking a dig at the NSCN (IM), Adinno stated that the former had no historical or political link with modern Nagaland and termed them as ‘fake nationalist’ peddling a ‘false promised land’. “Unlike Nagaland with a democratic tradition, its Marxist ‘collective leaders’ and most of its cadres belong to a Naga community domicile in neighbouring Indian State of Manipur”, she stated adding that the leaders of the community in question originally refused to join the Naga nation in 1947 and only after the FGN and Government of India signed an international ceasefire in 1964, had a change of mind. “Clearly, some people have a short memory that they could inordinately deride the Naga stand represented by NNC and FGN as ‘dead’”, it stated.
Adinno pointed out that as per the Lakhuti Resolution and the Naga constitution, any Naga who attempt to subvert or undermine Naga sovereignty shall be deemed a traitor.
Adinno also cautioned India that persisting with the idea of circumventing Naga democracy represented by NNC and FGN would have far reaching ramification.
The NNC President wanted the people to appreciate that the strength of its small nation had always been its unity of purpose. Here the NNC also criticized the role of NGOs from Nagaland for meddling in the internal affairs of neighbouring Indian States and cautioned that by going this, the NGOs were misrepresenting its national and external relations disregarding its consequences.
In a separate press statement, the NNC Panger group reminded that the Govt. of India after becoming a free Nation forcibly occupied the Naga Hills Excluded Area (Nagaland) with her armed forces and that this was done in complete violation of International Law. “This all happened because of the British Government’s biggest political blunder committed against the Naga people. And it is a shame and lie on the part of British Government to keep silent for the last 59 years to let the Naga people suffer and die even in this 21st century. Therefore, the NNC condemn the British Government in toto for their negligence in this 21st century once again”, stated Vizosielhou Nagi, General Secretary, NNC in a message.
The NNC pointed that India which spoke of world peace had always applied “divide and rule” and “divide and destroy” policies in Nagaland to finish the Naga people. “As a Government, India will do these political games but it will affect them immensely. The whole North East is affected and it is going deep inside the mainland of India. And ultimately, India may break into pieces because of her intransigence stand against the Nagas for decades”, it stated
For the Nagas, the NNC stated that till Nagaland is freed, the Nagas will fight generation after generation to free the Land of our birthright for which thousands and thousands of Nagas have already sacrificed their lives.
