NNP+ celebrates 12th Foundation Day

Kohima, May 13 (MExN): Network of Naga People Living with HIV/AIDS (NNP+) observed its 12th Foundation Day at its Secretariat, Kohima on May 13.

Speaking on behalf of the pioneers and as a co-founding member, Lanu Aier shared on the struggles faced by the members in the early days. “Though most of them are not with us physically, their pioneering struggles and visions are still remembered as we witness the fruits that they sowed tirelessly,” he said. The formation was one of the biggest challenges for them, he added recollecting the issues of “where to go and seek support, how to face and fight stigma and discrimination, how to run the organization etc.” He appreciated the current members led by its President and Project staff for their tireless efforts and making the organisation one of the largest growing community based organisations in the state.

Denish Prasad from Alliance India Delhi also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of all who are part of NNP+ for rendering commendable services to the community. Conveying solidarity, Program Manager (Vihaan Programme) NNP+, Bendang Jamir expressed his gratitude to the early members who had worked tirelessly and exhorted the members and staff to carry on the selfless services for the welfare of the community.

The programme ended with a minute of silent prayer. Earlier, Naomi Semy, President, NNP+ facilitated the programme. Shanpanthung, PO, NNP+ and Aching, Treasurer NNP+ also spoke during the programme.

NNP+ having its decentralized District Level Networks covering 9 districts in the state of Nagaland currently runs a Vihaan Programme and TI Project supported by Alliance India under GFATM Round IV and NSACS respectively. NNP+ also gets support from various churches, departments as well as well-wishers and has a total strength of 4713 members from all over the state. NNP+ was founded in 2002 by seven positive members.
