NNP+ on DNP+’s withdrawal of affiliation

DIMAPUR, MARCH 3 (MExN): The Network of Naga People Living with HIV/AIDS (NNP+) on Thursday issued a rejoinder on the February 28 news item on withdrawal of affiliation by Dimapur Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS (DNP+) while crying foul over imposition of election by the former before completion of the tenure of its present governing board.

In a press statement, NNP+ general secretary, Mongtsoa clarified that the six governing board members of DNP+ were terminated from active membership for “not abiding the rules and regulations of the organization as per section (d) & (e) of Article 17 and Section 1 of Article 35 of the byelaws by the governing board of NNP+ in consultation with the general body.”

As per the byelaws, no individual shall hold the post for more than two consecutive terms (i.e. 6 years), so that every member gets the opportunity to lead and serve. However, the former president of DNP+ had been holding the post of president for the last 10 years despite numerous communications on the resolutions made while asking him to give equal opportunity to other community members, the rejoinder claimed.

It maintained that this issue was discussed during the NNP+ board meeting where it was resolved to conduct the AGM cum election/selection of DNP+ on August 25, 2015, also adding, the house during the meeting further decided to hand over the issue to the general body of NNP+.

Realizing the urgent need of resolving the DNP+ issue, the general body of NNP+ conducted a meeting on November 12, 2015 and December 11, 2015, but on both the consecutive meetings, the former board members of DNP+ failed to attend. During the meeting, the house decided to change the board members of DNP+ and as resolved; the new governing board of DNP+ was set up, the rejoinder said.

After few days, the former board members of DNP+ brought the issue to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur and as of which a meeting was called by the DC to both the parties (former / new board members of DNP+) along with NNP+, NNagaDAO and DAPCU Dimapur on December 22, 2015 and directed to solve the issue and report by January 20, 2016.

Consequently, meeting was convened to resolve the issue dated January 5 and 9, 2016 in which the former board members failed to attend, the NNP+ stated, following which the house resolved to recognize the new board members at the final meeting called on January 19, 2016.   Following this, it said the Dimapur district administration approved the new board members.

It also pointed out that official information disseminated or official communications made to DNP+ by the president of NNP+ are the decision(s) of the NNP+ governing board and the general body. So the question of NNP+ president stepping down does not arise, the rejoinder added.
