No 5% deduction of arrears: Work charge employees

Dimapur, November 9 (MExN):  The All Nagaland Electricity Work-charge Employees (Court Petitioners) today declared its strong decision that there will be no deduction of any percentage regarding the DA/ADA arrears which they are expected to receive shortly.

The stand taken by the ANEWCE (Court Petitioners) comes as a strong opposition to the move by the All Nagaland Electricity Workers Association to deduct five percent from each and every grade-III & IV employees at Power Department in connection with DA/ADA arrears.

In this regard, the ANEWCE (Court Petitioners), in a press statement issued through its President N Lotha and General Secretary, Tali Ao, averred that they have made a decision that there will be no deduction of any percentage from the DA/ADA arrears.
The statement therefore, asked the concern EE, SDO, Cashier under the Power Department to look into the matter strictly to avoid such mal practices.

Striking their point home, the ANEWCE (Court Petitioners) leaders, while speaking with The Morung Express today, lamented that the parent ANEWA has been trying to deduct the percentage from the arrears of the work charge employees, while leaving out the regular employees and insisted that it was not fair.

They also lamented that, the ANWEA is asking for the five percent deduction, though the work charge employees have made equal contribution to the Association like any other regular employees be it membership or other additional collections. The ANEWA wants to put the five percent deduction in a ‘welfare fund’, said the work charge employees. The Work Charge Employees, who have fought a five year case for the DA/ADA arrears are determined not to give in.

It is learnt that the highest amount a work charge employee will get as arrears is approximately Rs 38,000 while the least is Rs 16,000. There is an estimated 1500 work charge employee under different categories in the Power Department. The case for the release of the arrears was filed by 563 employees in the year 2000 at the Guwahati High Court and a judgement passed in the year 2005.
