Dimapur, June 10 (MExN): The All Assam Students' Union on Sunday has clarified that the Union has not called for any Assam Bandh. The clarification came against the backdrop of an image heavily shared on Social Media with the AASU logo allegedly informing that the Union has called for an ‘Assam Bandh’ on June 11 demanding justice for the two persons killed in Karbi Anglong. Two youths hailing from Guwahati was murdered in Karbi Anglong on June 10 allegedly due to the circulation of fake news on Social Media and messaging apps that they were about alleged “child kidnapper.” However, in a Facebook post, AASU members have clarified that this news is fake. “We have not called for any Assam Bandh …” ASSU said while replying to a query on its Facebook page. When pointed out that the “image” has its logo, it replied that, “It's not our official letter head.” Meanwhile, the All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) has called off its proposed 48-hour chakka bandh from June 11. The Sentinel, on June 8, reported that the AAMTA President, Pulak Goswami, and Secretary General, Pradip Das, in a press release have informed that the decision was taken following a request made by the Sadou Bharat Haridev Sangha besides keeping in mind the ensuing Eid al-Fitr. Among others, the Association had called for a total commercial vehicle shut down on June 11 demanding that the government increase the fare of the vehicles.
