Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio regretted that despite the proper sanction being made for bringing drinking water supply to Kohima town the issue could not be resolved because of the problems with the landowners. Speaking during a meeting on maintenance of law and order situation, peace and tranquility in Kohima town at Zonal Council Hall here yesterday, Rio said that the State Government having received sanction for Kohima drinking water had started the process since 2005.
But the talks with the villages have failed and therefore unable to bring water supply to Kohima town, he regretted. Expressing that no civilization can survive without proper drinking water supply, Rio asserted that the government has started negotiation for tapping water from other sources, which won't have the problems of landowners.
He also urged upon the landowners of various water sources to willing donate land in order to bring water supply as there can be no state capital without proper water supply in Kohima. He also asked the landowners to be broad minded and also extend cooperation and support to the government in solving the problem of drinking water in the State capital.
The State Government was trying to tap water from a river between Khonoma village under Kohima and Poilwa village in Peren district. However, the negotiation started but could not be successful because of the land dispute over the river between the two villages.
