‘No compromise on service term’

Dimapur, December 9 (MExN): The new retirement age set by the state government is chicken-feed and far from the core demands, the Naga Students’ Federation implies. On this the NSF affirms that there shall be no compromise on the length of service as demanded by the students.

The Federation’s council met on December 8 and held discussions pertaining to the increase in the superannuation age. After the discussions the Federation decided not to compromise with the ‘fixation of length of service.’ However, NSF is open to any other suggestion or view whether it should be 33 years or more. The NSF ‘fervently beseech’ the state Government to legislate on the matter during its winter Assembly session scheduled December 13.

“In the event of failure on the part of state Government to enshrine the length of service, series of agitation shall be launched in phase manner” a copy of the resolutions from the NSF executives stated. It also informed to appoint a five-member mediator group to assist the NSF and other parties to ushering in an “atmosphere of ‘give and take’ and to find out amicable solution based on honorable and acceptable to all concerned, particularly the student community.”

The NSF said o have observed the appeasement policy on the part of heads of the departments, CANSSEA, etc for proposing the rise of upper age limit for entering into Government service from 30-35 years and removal of blanket ban on creation of white collar jobs in the state. The NSF pointed this out to those in concern: “Notwithstanding, this could calm down many student leaders/organizations who have recommended the demands of the CANSSEA without asserting the truth and adverse consequences in future. Side by side, the NSF has also become the victim for inclusion of those points in its charter of demands, which were not at all the core issue, or demand.”

Stating that the said matter in the context of Nagaland cannot be compared with other states in India, the NSF reminded that Nagaland has only a “single window employment” avenue. “The NSF strongly feels that the state government should have set up a commission to deliberate thoroughly and consult various concerned bodies/organizations to balance all merits and demerits in order to establish justification on the rise of retirement age” the Federation said.

Unfortunately, the NSF stated, the present situation has been exacted by a handful vested interested persons. They did this taking advantage of the outgoing DAN conglomeration to commit to such state subject as ‘personal issue.’ “It is also quite paradoxical on the part of state Cabinet to have thought without considering the mindset of thousands of employees and that the entire state employees may lend obligatory role during the forthcoming state general election” the Federation added.
