September 9 | Phek
Following the government’s failure in fulfilling the demands of the Phek Government College Students’ Union (PGCSU) by not reverting the transfer post of a lecturer in Education department, despite several representations submitted to the department of Higher Education.
As part of their protest against the government apathy to their demand, the PGCSU observed two-day protest as “black day”. The observation which culminates today was attended by Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) officials, All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) officials.
According to the PGCSU general secretary, Veshekhoyi Chizo, despite three representations submitted to the department of higher education, no concrete response has been given till date by the government.
Chizo also disclosed that as per the principal of the college intimation, on September 8, morning, the Commissioner & Secretary of Higher Education called up the principal giving an indication that things may not be implemented before November, 2009, adding that the Dimapur Government College would be effected if the same was reverting to PGC, where he termed it as a genuine problem.
While lamenting the Commissioner & Secretary’s response, Chizo said that PGC was already effected and now it’s in the stage of ruining the academic career of the students. He further explained that, DGC has seven education lecturers while Phek has only two lecturers at present functioning with general and honours course.
Wishing the government to address the grievances of the college, Chizo has appealed the Commissioner & Secretary to transfer some few lecturer post from DGC, leaving two or three and see how the outcome would be.
Meanwhile, the PGCSU has declared the deadline of the reverting case, it has demanded the government to fulfill their plea before September 14, failing to which it will resort to any course of action if their demands are not met within the stipulated time.
To share the pains of the PGCSU, the CSU Executives led by its president, Mutsivoyi Kotso and ANCSU speaker, Kuzoto Lohe and Finance Secretary, Vipa Domeh, had an interaction with the students’ leaders today at the college premises. Supporting the initiatives of the PGCSU, the CSU and ANCSU condemned the intimation of Commissioner & Secretary, terming the same as sabotaging the students community specially the PGC, the organisation further added: “we can not remain a silent spectators at such motives”.
